I am a Prospective: Student Parent

Graduation Requirement: 3 credits of Social Studies including U.S. History.

The mission of the Kents Hill School Social Studies Department is to provide a stimulating academic environment where students may develop their interest in the subject matter and improve in a range of educational skills.

The Social Studies Department strongly recommends a sequential and coordinated course of study for each student. To that end, three years of study, one of which must be U.S. History, are required. The common aim of courses in this department is to develop students, comprehension of history as a form of both inquiry and understanding. Honors courses are available at each level.
Course of Study:

  • Western Civilization
  • European History
  • US History & AP US History
  • Senior Electives, including psychology, ethics, government, International Relations, Eastern Beliefs, economics, and AP European History
  • Honors level classes are available in the freshmen and sophomore years

Special Programs: Students enrolled in Honors European History compete each year in the Maine Model UN program. Students in the junior and senior years can also compete with prior permission from the Model UN advisor.

The Kents Hill Social Studies department embraces the study of the political, social and cultural evolution of mankind from many different perspectives. We believe that understanding the past is essential to making the world a better place for all of its citizens. In addition, studying the past helps us to appreciate and understand the present, while making a difference in the future.
