Sophomore Year
October - Take a SAT/ACT practice test with follow-up in advisory period
April – College Counseling Class Meeting

Junior Year
September – Junior Seminar begins (1 trimester class)
September – PSAT preparation
October – PSAT administration at Kents Hill; Parents Meetings and Workshops during Parents Weekend
January - Junior Kick-Off Event
January-March – Individual Meeting with College Counselor
March – College Visits
April – Parents Meeting during Parents Weekend; Further Meetings with College Counselor; ACT administration
May – SAT administration, AP Testing
June – SAT Subject Tests administration
Summer – College Visits and Interviews; Prepare resume, essay; check-ins with College Counselor

Senior Year
September – SAT preparation and ACT administration. Finalize list.  Common App Bootcamps - begin applications
October – SAT and ACT administration; Parents Meeting and Workshops during Parents Weekend; College Visits/Interviews during Long Weekend; Early Action/Decision applications due to College Counseling Office
November – SAT and SAT Subject Tests administration; Early Action/Decision deadlines
December – All applications due to College Counseling Office; SAT, Subject Tests and ACT administration
January – CSS Profile and FAFSA due; Mid-Year grades mailed to colleges; SAT and Subject Tests administration
April – Traditional reply date for colleges
May 1st – Acceptance and Deposit due at one college only; AP Testing
May-June – Wait List decisions begin
June – Final Transcripts mailed to colleges from Kents Hill School after release by Business Office

Junior Seminar

In the fall all juniors are required to take the Junior Seminar. An integral part of the college counseling program, the seminar is intended to educate and demystify students on the college process by covering the following topics:

  • Why go to college?
  • Test preparation
  • Building a resume
  • Finding the right college
  • Visiting and interview techniques
  • The application process
  • College essays
  • Teacher recommendations
  • The NCAA
  • Scholarship searches

    As part of the seminar, each student is provided with a comprehensive set of materials on HAIKU including: sample letters, sample resumes and suggestions about the college process from start to finish. At the seminar's conclusion, each junior is assigned a college counselor, students are free to switch counselors as needed.
