I am a Prospective: Student Parent

Financial Aid Program, 2016-17

The mission of Kents Hill School’s financial aid program is to enroll students with promise and talent who would not otherwise have access to an independent school education because of financial constraints.  The extension of this aid makes our school more accessible and affordable, thus fostering a more diverse school community while also attracting strong, multi-talented students whose enrollment will positively impact the school academically, culturally, athletically, artistically and socially.

To assist families in affording a Kents Hill School education, we offer need-based financial aid.  Awards are made on a competitive basis to students of proven achievement and effort whose families demonstrate financial need.  Kents Hill School does not offer academic, athletic, artistic or other merit scholarships.

Parents/guardians of new admissions applicants who would like to be considered for financial aid are required to complete the financial aid application and submit all required supplemental documents by February 1st (when our admissions application is due).  Families should complete the admissions application and financial aid application concurrently.  Decisions regarding admission and financial aid, if applicable, will be sent to families on March 10th.

Returning families seeking financial aid must re-apply each school year in order to be considered, even if an award was made in the previous year.  Parents/guardians of returning students are required to complete the financial aid application and submit all required supplemental documents by February 1st.  Returning families will not be considered for an award of any amount unless a completed application is submitted.

We use School and Student Services (SSS) to process financial aid applications. Based on the financial information you provide in the Parents’ Financial Statement, SSS gives us an estimated amount your family can contribute to our tuition. This estimate is a starting point to help us make fair and objective financial aid decisions.

Kents Hill’s admission policy is that we are a need-blind school, meaning students are accepted based on their merit and regardless of financial need.  Kents Hill believes, as does SSS, that parents have an obligation to fund their child’s education to the extent to which they are able.  Furthermore, Kents Hill is unable to make a financial aid award to every student who is accepted and demonstrates need, nor is it able to meet the demonstrated need of every family who receives an award.  It is school policy that if parents/guardians are divorced, separated or remarried, each custodial and non-custodial parent or guardian must complete a separate Parents’ Financial Statement and submit other required documents in order to be considered for financial aid.  Kents Hill School handles all financial information with the strictest of confidentiality; in turn, we ask that families keep their award decisions confidential.  To begin your financial aid application for the 2016-17 school year, please follow these steps below.  Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mike Toomey, Director of Financial Aid, at 207-685-1686 or at mitoomey@kentshill.org.
